Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Miguel Matias allegedly called 911 and confessed Saturday to killing his daughter after catching her sending text messages to a boy, the New York Post reported. Matias also allegedly told authorities he had disposed of her body in a "wooded" area but it was found in the building, the newspaper reported.
Matias, 34, who allegedly has a history of mental illness, was charged Saturday night with murder and manslaughter.
He once allegedly poured gasoline over his car while his daughter and two sons were inside. Kelly called that incident a failed murder-suicide.
The man's three children lived in Pennsylvania with their mother but Matias had weekend visitation rights, police said.
