MILWAUKEE, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- People in Milwaukee and throughout southeastern Wisconsin were bracing for a major snowstorm forecast to hit the region Sunday.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said Friday that with between 8 to 10 inches of snow predicted for this weekend's storm, Milwaukee will likely continue to move up the list of snowiest winters on record.
Currently, Wisconsin's most populous city has endured more than 75 inches of snow and National Weather Service data shows Milwaukee could be facing its fourth most snow-filled winter ever.
Sunday's predicted snowfall would allow Milwaukee's 2007-08 winter to surpass the snowy winters of 1978-79 and 1973-74. The Journal Sentinel said the record of 109.8 inches, accomplished in the winter of 1885-86, does not appear to be in jeopardy.
At this point in the season last year, Milwaukee had only seen 33.2 inches of snow and had enjoyed a moderate average of 36.7 inches of snow a year.
