Turkish homes burned in Germany

TUTTLINGEN, Germany, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A German man was arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire broke out in the Tuttlingen, Germany, home he shared with Turks, police said.

Investigators said that because the 53-year-old suspect has an alleged history of arson, they have discounted the possibility that the fire was a hate crime, the Turkish Daily News reported.

All 14 residents of the home escaped without injury after the fire broke out in six separate places Thursday night, the report said.

The fire came almost two weeks after nine Turks, including five children, died in an apartment fire in Ludwigshafen, the newspaper said.

Arson incidents have raised tension between Turkey and Germany, the report said. Political leaders from both countries have expressed opposing views about the assimilation of the 2.5 million Turks living in Germany.
