GAZA, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Palestinian officials said drugs are being smuggled from Egypt into Gaza by women who hide the substances in their bras or private parts.
A smuggling case involved a woman from Palestine who hid a large quantity of heroin in her bra after cancer caused her to remove her breasts, al-Arabiya reported.
Drugs smuggled by women in the region often go undetected because the conservative society does not condone searching the bodies of women, the report said.
"Only X-rays or well-trained dogs can detect the drugs, and we have neither," the head of the Palestinian Drug Combating Department, Col. Abdul-Halim al-Aloul, said.
Aloul said Israel has been the most lax in its attempts to combat drug trafficking from Jerusalem, al-Arabiya said.
