DEKALB, Ill., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- Officials said five people were killed and 15 injured when a gunman went on a Valentine's Day rampage at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill.

During a campus news conference Friday, police said five students died of injuries received during the massacre and the shooter killed himself. Officials blamed an earlier report of six students killed on a miscommunication between a hospital and the coroner.

Stephen P. Kazmierczak, 27, was identified as the suspect armed with four guns, including a Remington 12-gauge shotgun in a guitar case, that barged into a Cole Hall lecture auditorium, then opened fire on the Geology 104, Ocean Sciences, class. Campus police said he had quit taking medication about two weeks before the shootings, but would not specify what medication he was taking.

The DeKalb County, Ill., coroner's office identified the victims as Daniel Parmenter, 20, of Westchester, Ill.; Catalina Garcia, 20, of Cicero, Ill.; Ryanne Mace, 19, of Carpentersville, Ill.; Julianna Gehant, 32, of Meriden, Ill., and Gayle Dubowsky, 20, of Carol Stream, the DeKalb Daily Chronicle reported.

Fifteen other people were injured, some critically, in Thursday afternoon's rampage on the DeKalb campus, about 60 miles west of Chicago.
