DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- A woman in Daytona Beach Shores, Fla., escaped from the trunk of her car after an armed man forced her out of her apartment and into the vehicle, police said.

Charity Gibson, 26, was inside her apartment when a man broke in, held a gun to her stomach and commanded her to give him her purse, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla. reported Thursday.

He reportedly forced her into the trunk of her 2006 Mustang when she said he did not have the purse.

The man preceded to drive the car with Gibson in the trunk, police said.

"My thoughts were God is God and God is everywhere," Gibson said, "So, I was praying and I know what I needed to do."

Gibson managed to jump from the trunk of the moving car after unlatching a glow-in-the-dark emergency release, WKMG said of Tuesday's incident.

The stolen car was reportedly found Wednesday.
