McAuliffe optimistic about Clinton

WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Contributions to U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign are running at $1 million a day in February, her campaign chairman said Thursday.

In an interview on "Today" on NBC, Terry McAuliffe was optimistic about Clinton's chances to win the Democratic nomination.

"If you look at where Hillary Clinton will have won -- California, Texas, Ohio, Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey -- she's winning big states," McAuliffe said. "And these states, I will make the argument, are critical for the Democrats to win the general election this November."

Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois has been the top vote getter in more state primaries and caucuses than Clinton, while she has generally done better in larger states.

She needs to win in the remaining big states, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, to win the nomination.
