Dad arrested for leaving baby in car crash

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- An Orlando, Fla., father crashed while fleeing a routine traffic stop and left his infant daughter in the car as he ran from the scene, police said.

Larry Patterson, 19, was arrested within an hour of the incident and is charged with child abuse, fleeing and eluding and driving on a suspended license, WFTV, Orlando, reported Thursday.

Police said he may have refused to pull over during the routine traffic stop because he is on probation for drug related charges.

Patterson was driving recklessly, causing his 5-month-old daughter to be hurled around the car before he crashed into another vehicle and fled the scene, police said.

Authorities found the baby on the shelf in the back of the car below the rear window after the Wednesday night crash. She was transported to Arnold Palmer hospital for treatment of injuries, WFTV said.
