MESA, Ariz., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Police in Arizona don't believe a burglary suspect purposefully targeted the clubhouse at the Chicago Cubs' minor league facility in Mesa.

Mesa Police detective Chris Arvayo told the Arizona Republic that suspect Todd Smith was a well-known character with a long criminal record and allegedly saw Fitch Park clubhouse as just another place to rip off.

"If he was in area and made his mind up, it's just like anywhere else," Arvayo summed up.

Smith was picked up over the weekend and charged with stealing more than $10,000 worth of stuff from four locations since Oct. 19. Fitch Park was one of the four crime scenes.

The newspaper said Smith had been kicked out of the park just a few hours before a credit card belonging to Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija was used at a nearby Wal-Mart. Samardzija, catcher Jake Fox and outfielder Tyler Colvin all reported items including cell phones, identification cards and checkbooks to be missing.
