COPENHAGEN, Norway, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Danish media have rallied around the cartoonist targeted in an alleged assassination plot because of his controversial image of the prophet Mohammed.

The country's major dailies Wednesday reprinted the cartoon image of a lit bomb growing out of Mohammed's turban, which appeared in the Jyllands-Posten newspaper in September 2005, as a show of solidarity after it was discovered Muslim extremists plotted to kill the man who drew it, Kurt Westergaard, The Copenhagen Post reported.

Law enforcement agencies Tuesday arrested three men suspected of plotting to kill Westergaard. The arrests renewed concerns about what measures should be taken to protect freedom of speech against extremism in Denmark, the newspaper reported.

After the arrests, spokespeople for the Muslim community in Denmark reiterated that violent acts weren't an acceptable way to express dissatisfaction about the drawings.
