Wrongly convicted man seeks $22.5 million

NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A New York man who innocently spent 22 1/2 years in prison filed a $22.5 million lawsuit against the Brooklyn District Attorney's Office and New York police.

The suit claims that police and the district attorney set up Cy Greene to be convicted of the robbery and stabbing death of John Choi in 1985, the New York Post reported Monday.

Prosecutors and police allegedly suppressed testimony from eyewitnesses who said the killer was a 6-foot-tall Spanish-speaker, the lawsuit claims. Greene is 5-foot-2 and speaks only English.

Greene's conviction was vacated in 2006 thanks to lawyer Myron Beldock.

"He's an intelligent man," Beldock said of Greene. "Had this not happened, he could have made real strides."
