Stamp price rises to 42 cents in May

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- The U.S. Postal Service in Washington announced that the price for a 1-ounce first-class stamp will rise to 42 cents on May 12.

The 1 cent raise will not affect Forever Stamps, created in April 2007 as a stamp that could always be used no matter how much the price rises, said a release from Washington.

"The Postal Service developed the Forever Stamp for consumers to ease the transition during price changes," said Postmaster General John Potter. "We encourage Americans to buy Forever Stamps now for 41 cents, because like the name suggests, they are good forever."

Prices for other mailing service will also see raises between 1 and 5 cents.

New prices for shipping services, including Express Mail and Priority Mail, will be announced in March
