TEL AVIV, Israel, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Protesters trying to raise awareness of conditions near Gaza blocked one of Tel Aviv's major traffic routes in a second day of demonstrations, authorities said.
The protesters Monday blocked the Ayalon highway near the Azrieli center and Hashalom train station in Tel Aviv, crippling northbound traffic until police pushed the crowd back, Ynetnews reported. Demonstrators later disrupted traffic on the central Menachem Begin Road in Tel Aviv.
Sunday protesters blocked the entrance to Jerusalem.
A vehicle outfitted with loudspeakers repeatedly played the "Color Red" alarm, used to alert residents before rocket attacks, the Web site reported.
A resident of Sderot, a frequent target of rocket attacks from Gaza, said he was encouraged by public reaction.
"There is a lot of love, every car that passes by honks in support," said the man who attended the rally. "We plan to demonstrate in a different place each day. ... We, too, have children who want to go to their kindergartens and playgrounds."
