MIAMI, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Nuptials modeled after the movie "My Big, Fat Greek Wedding" turned to tragedy in Florida when the bride collapsed and died during the reception.
Kim Sjostrom was having the first dance with her Brooklyn-born husband, Teddy Efkarpides, when her heart failed, The Miami Herald reported Monday.
Sjostrom, 36, had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 9 and relatives said she had suffered some heart problems in her 20s. Doctors told her new husband that she died of cardiac arrest related to blockages and hardening of the arteries.
An elementary school teacher, Sjostrom met her Greek husband through an online dating service three years before the Jan. 19 ceremony.
Her dream was to recreate the wedding in the hit movie, including a Greek-themed bridal shower.
