SYDNEY, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Sydney is facing a growing dilemma as unrelenting precipitation has drenched the Australian city with seven inches of rain so far this month.
While Sydney only experienced 0.2 inches of rain last February, the total to date this month sits at nearly 6.8 inches and the forecast for the next two months is more of the same, The Sydney Morning Herald said in its Sunday edition.
The average monthly rainfall for Sydney is about 4.6 inches, meaning February has already easily surpassed that mark in less than two weeks.
Weather Bureau climate officer Shannon Symons has predicted similar rainy weather for Sydney throughout March and April, while suggesting the rain may continue through the summer as well.
"The bureau's modeling shows this weather pattern will continue until at least early autumn," Symons said.
The Herald said the increased rainfall is stressing area dams, which have reached 64 percent of capacity after rising 3 percent in the last week alone.
