ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- Pakistan authorities say a bomb killed 14 people Saturday at an election rally in an area frequented by Taliban militants near the Afghan border.

The explosion occurred in Charsadda, in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province, during a rally of the Awami National Party, a nationalist ethnic Pashtun party, the BBC reported.

The province borders Afghanistan and has been the scene of frequent attacks from Islamic extremists in the area, the BBC said.

Pakistan is scheduled to hold its parliamentary elections Feb. 18.
