Poll: Education No. 1 issue for Hispanics

MIAMI, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Education ranks as the most important issue for Hispanics in the United States, a poll released Thursday indicated.

The study by FH Hispania also found that teachers and schools are the leading source of information for Hispanics.

The survey of 1,000 respondents found that for first-generation Hispanics, education, child care, and crime and security are the leading issues. For second-generation Hispanics, access to healthcare, education and crime top are the concerns, the poll indicated.

Education, as well as crime and security, ranked among the top concerns for non-Hispanics.

"In general, Hispanic adults are very family-centric, so the focus on education and childcare is not a surprise. But what is particularly noteworthy is that the interests of second-generation Hispanics begin to more closely mirror the interests of non-Hispanics," said Rissig Licha, managing director of FH Hispania.
