Crocs sued over child's escalator injury

NEW YORK, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- The family of a 3-year-old girl injured on an escalator at Kennedy International Airport in New York has sued the manufacturer of Crocs shoes.

The complaint claims that Emma Hochberg, who lives in Westchester County, suffered permanent injuries and blames the Crocs clogs she was wearing, the New York Daily News reported. Lawyer Andrew Laskin said that the skin was peeled off Emma's toe.

There have been other incidents where children's feet have become stuck in escalators when they were wearing Crocs, Laskin said.

"Just because a pair of shoes comes in pretty colors with Disney characters on it doesn't make it safe," Laskin said. "This is something Crocs has known for a considerable period of time yet consciously decided to ignore."

Tia Mattson, a spokeswoman for the company, which is based in Colorado, said Crocs is investigating the incident.
