INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- An Indianapolis mom was found passed out on top of her unresponsive 2-year-old son before he was pronounced dead Wednesday morning, a report said.
Officials said Latasha McMorris, 24, was likely under the influence of drugs or alcohol when she fell unconscious on top of her toddler, Sheldon Bartley Jr., WRTV, Indianapolis reported Wednesday.
McMorris' boyfriend reportedly found her passed out on top of her non-breathing son at 12:30 a.m. at the EconoLodge Motel and called police. The toddler was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. at Community East Hospital.
The case is being handled as a homicide and McMorris was detained on felony neglect charges, police said.
McMorris was reportedly convicted of child neglect in July 2007 when Child Protective Services removed Bartley and other children from her custody. Officials said she has had several previous alcohol-related arrests.
