WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- The latest CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll is a statistical dead heat between U.S. Sen. Barack Obama and his Democratic primary opponent Sen. Hillary Clinton.

On the eve of the critical Super Tuesday primaries, Obama and Clinton are only three points apart with 49 percent of registered Democrats supporting Obama and 46 percent backing Clinton, CNN reported Monday. The poll's margin of error is 4.5 percentage points.

A CNN averaging of five national polls conducted in the last few days puts Sen. Clinton at 45 percent and Sen. Obama at 43 percent.

On the Republican side, Sen. John McCain of Arizona leads former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 44 percent to 29 percent in the latest CNN poll. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee polled 18 percent followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul with 6 percent.

Averaging five polls of Republican voters, McCain leads Romney 45 percent to 24 percent.

For its latest poll, CNN surveyed 1,192 adults by telephone.
