HOUSTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- FBI officials in Houston have reopened a 2003 cold case in an attempt to identify a dead boy found in a Houston trash bin.
Crime scene photos released Monday show where the body of the 3- to 6-year-old child, who has been called "Beloved Doe," was thrown out in a southeast Houston apartment complex, the Houston Chronicle reported.
The FBI also is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the child's identity or to the person who disposed of his body.
The child, thought to be Hispanic, died of starvation and dehydration at just 21 pounds. He was found wearing a diaper adorned with bears wrapped in a blanket and stuffed inside a zippered red-and-white bag.
Authorities are hoping new publicity about the case will trigger relatives, medical personnel or others with information to come forward.
