CHICAGO, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Police were still looking Sunday for a lone gunman believed responsible for killing five women at an Illinois shopping mall, it was reported Sunday.

Police in Tinley Park, Ill., said they suspect the shootings may have occurred during a botched robbery, adding that the shooter disappeared without a trace, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The incident occurred Saturday morning when the unidentified gunman opened fire in a Lane Bryant clothing store within the mall. Police found the bodies of the five women inside the store.

Tinley Park police Sgt. T.J. Grady told the Chicago Sun-Times the gunman likely acted alone, but the possible reasons for the deadly rampage were still a mystery.

At least 40 police investigators were assigned to the case. One witness has described the gunman as a 5-foot-9 black man weighing between 230 and 290 pounds.
