TRUCKEE , Calif., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- An Amtrak train stuck overnight in California's snowy Sierra mountains was headed for Chicago again Saturday, officials said.
The Chicago-bound Zephyr No. 6 and the San Francisco-bound Zephyr No. 5 trains both were trapped Friday after a snowplow used to clear the tracks fell and halted the progress of the trains, KXTV, Sacramento, Calif., reported Saturday.
The trains, which had a total of about 400 people on board, were stranded near Donner Pass near Truckee.
The No. 5 was pulled back to Reno Friday night and the passengers given hotel rooms while the No. 6 passengers stayed on board their train, which continued to have heat and lights. The tracks were cleared Saturday morning and the No. 6 again headed for Chicago, about 16 hours behind schedule, said Amtrak officials.
Amtrak officials said they had little luck in finding buses in nearby Truckee to move the passengers because so many buses were in Arizona for the Super Bowl.
