WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., raised more than $1 million a day during January, campaign officials announced.

The $32 million in donations, a record for the month, came during the interest generated by Obama's primary victories in Iowa and South Carolina, The Washington Times said.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Obama's Democratic Party opponent, hasn't released January fundraising totals, which aren't required until Feb. 20.

Campaign figures for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a Republican candidate, showed he had lent his own campaign nearly twice what it raised from individual donors.

Romney lent his campaign $18 million during the fourth quarter last year, nearly twice the $9,027,461 raised in that period from individual donors, the filing showed. Overall, he lent $35.4 million from his personal fortune to the race while other contributions total $53.5 million.
