NEW DELHI, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Interpol, the international police agency, has issued warrants for two Indian doctors who allegedly organized a ring that stole human kidneys for transplant.

Police in India charge that the group victimized 500 poor Indians during the past decade, taking their kidneys by force or fraud and transplanting them into foreigners or Indians who could afford to pay.

Indian police requested the "red corner" notices for Amit Kumar and his brother, Jeevan, from the International Criminal Police Organization in Lyons, France, the Press Trust of India reported.

The group allegedly lured poor Indians in the New Delhi area with the promise of jobs. Victims say that they were sometimes forced to agree at gunpoint to have a kidney removed or given an injection under the guise of taking blood for testing, waking to find that they had been through surgery.

The victims were allegedly paid up to $2,600 for their kidneys, a fraction of what the recipients paid.
