Victim of lotto-rapist wins right to sue

LONDON, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The British House of Lords said it will allow the victim of a 1989 rape to seek monetary damages from her assailant who won a large lottery prize in 2004.

The court gave "Mrs. A." the right to pursue her claim against convicted rapist Iorworth Hoare who won a share of a $42 million jackpot while in a half-way house in August 2004, Sky News said Wednesday.

"Mrs. A." appealed to the House of Lords in November asking for the repeal of a statute-of-limitations law imposing a six-year time limit on such claims.

"I am both delighted and relieved that my appeal to the House of Lords has been successful and that I have succeeded in changing a law which will provide others in the future with a means of achieving justice," the woman said in the Sky News report.
