Clinton touts, Obama pouts Fla. results

MIAMI, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Hillary Clinton was happy to win Florida's Democratic primary Tuesday even though, as her chief rival's campaign noted, no delegates were allocated.

Clinton, the New York senator, tallied 50 percent of the vote to 33 percent for Obama, the Illinois senator, The Miami Herald said. Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards was a distant third with 14 percent.

CBS News noted Clinton referred to a pledge she signed last year, along with the other Democratic presidential contenders, not to campaign in Florida because it moved up its primary date ahead of Super Tuesday, Feb. 5. That decision led the national party to strip the state of its delegates.

"Floridians wanted their voices heard. ... I am thrilled to have had this vote of confidence you have given me here today," Clinton said. "I will do everything I can to make sure that not only are Florida's Democratic delegates seated, but Florida is in the winning column for the Democrats in 2008."

But Bill Burton, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, downplayed the victory. "Obama and Clinton tie for delegates in Florida. 0 for Obama, 0 for Clinton," he said in an e-mail to reporters.
