PITTSBURGH, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- An official at the Pittsburgh coroner's office testified that he had concerns about his boss, Dr. Cyril Wecht, shipping unclaimed cadavers to a university.
Edward Strimlan said at Wecht's trial on multiple charges that while he had "reservations" about the 2005 transaction, he did not voice his concerns to Wecht.
Wecht, a frequent television commentator about major crimes all over the United States, is on trial in Pittsburgh on multiple counts alleging he used his position as Allegheny County Medical Examiner for his personal gain.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said that while Strimlan was complimentary toward Wecht under cross examination, Wecht nevertheless had the two bodies sent to Carlow University for autopsies and then sent back to the morgue before the deceased's families were located.
Wecht, 76, forged a high-profile career as a consultant in such cases as the Sharon Tate murders and running a private lab that did pathology work. ABC News said the current allegations include charges he dragooned county employees into doing private errands and work for his private lab.
