SEATTLE, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- The city of Seattle has decided to enforce a city law against the federal government in an attempt to save a lone coyote.
The city put extra staff at entrances to Discovery Park Monday to keep Naval officers from shooting a coyote that has snatched a cat and chased a small dog in the park, the Seattle Times reported.
A spokesman for Naval Station Everett confirmed Sunday that a marksman was scheduled to shoot the animal, which has been approaching a cluster of military homes inside the park.
But Joelle Ligon, a spokeswoman for the city, said she had different ideas after hearing that the military planned to shoot the coyote Tuesday.
"Seattle Parks and the city is doing all it can to prevent this from happening," she said. "It's against the law to have a firearm in a city park. We're going to enforce it against the federal government."
