NEW DELHI, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- French President Nicolas Sarkozy kept India's president, prime minister and other top officials waiting Saturday while he visited the Taj Mahal.

Sarkozy was the guest of honor at an "at home" at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the presidential palace, The Times of India said. He had been warned he was scheduling his day too tightly.

President Pratibha Patil, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, members of the Cabinet and Sonia Gandhi, head of the United Progressive Alliance, were among the dignitaries who had to wait for Sarkozy to arrive. Other political leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and high-ranking police and army officers also attended the reception in the palace gardens.
