Netherlands warned about Islamaphobic acts

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Officials in the Netherlands have been warned by Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki to reject recent Islamaphobic acts in their country.

With a Dutch parliamentarian announcing his intent to create a short film based on his opinions regarding the Koran, Mottaki said such insulting takes on Islamic faith should not be tolerated, Iran's state-run PRESS TV reported Saturday.

The Iranian minister said if such acts are allowed to take place in the Netherlands, they would have serious consequences.

Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende has already criticized such Islamaphobic acts, even if conducted under the banner of free speech.

Meanwhile, Mottaki also took time during a recent meeting in Switzerland to discuss his country's nuclear program with European Parliament President Hans-Gert Potterin.

PRESS TV said Potterin was supportive regarding Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, labeling such nuclear negotiations constructive.
