Gas explosion kills two and injures three

KHABAROVSK, Russia, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A gas explosion during a house fire in Khabarovsk, Russia, Friday night killed two people and left three injured.

The fire, which consumed four rooms of a wooden home, caused a gas-cylinder to explode, ITAR-TASS reported Saturday.

"The gas blast, which occurred when firefighters were extinguishing the fire, sharply aggravated the situation, (and) it caused a roof collapse," an official said.

Records from the Ministry for Emergency Situations showed since the start of the year, 379 fires were reported in the Khabarovsk Territory, which killed 20 people and wounded 17. Firefighters reportedly saved 391 individuals.
