Claim: Promiscuity causes bad grades

CAMBRIDGE, England, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A Cambridge University survey purports to have discovered links between bad grades and sexual promiscuity.

An expert survey of more than 1,000 college students revealed undergraduates with low academic success have the most sex partners, The Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

"The more sociable a person is the less time they have for their studies. People who have a lot of sexual partners not only spend time initiating relationships with people but they also have to contend with a lot of stress when those relationships break up. This can seriously affect a person's ability to concentrate," Lancaster University Professor Cary Cooper said.

Research shows Peterhouse, Cambridge, ranked low in 2007 for student academics, but was in third place when it comes to promiscuity. Results were flipped for Christ's College, which had higher academic success rates and less promiscuity. Christ's College also reportedly had the most virgins.

The study showed 40 percent of students claimed to have had one-night stands and more than 60 percent of students failed to ever be tested for sexually transmitted diseases.
