Taser used on out-of-control Canadian

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Police in Vancouver, British Columbia, Tasered a suspect after six officers were unable to subdue him while attempting to make an arrest.

The incident took place outside an art gallery Thursday night where the province's governor general was the guest speaker at a forum on urban arts, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.

Before the Tasering took place, a witness said the suspect had an argument with another person and seemed extremely agitated when police arrived. They were unable to calm him down.

Acting Sgt. Steve Watters told the CBC the officers involved followed proper guidelines.

"He was being very violent," Watters said. "They were having difficulty controlling him. When (an officer) deployed the Taser they were able to control him after that," he said.

Watters said the suspect hit a female police officer several times before he was Tasered.
