LONDON, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The only survivor of the crash that killed Princess Diana denied Wednesday at the British inquest that he was involved in any cover-up or conspiracy.

Trevor Rees told a coroner's jury in London that he does not remember much about the crash, the BBC reported. Rees, bodyguard to Dodi Fayed, was severely injured in the crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997.

"All I have ever done is given the truth as I see it," Rees said.

Rees's former employer, Mohammed al-Fayed, owner of London's Harrods Department Store and the Ritz Hotel in Paris, cpntends that the crash was arranged to prevent the princess from marrying his son. French investigators blamed the driver, Henri Paul, finding that he was drunk at the time, and on photographers pursuing Diana.

"The Bodyguard's Story," a third-person account of the crash, was published in 2000. Rees said he worked with Moira Johnston, a U.S. writer, on the book and said that British intelligence agencies had no hand in it.
