Winter rains still drenching Great Britain

LONDON, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Great Britain was pelted with heavy winter rains Monday that caused dangerous flooding in several areas across the region.

Creeks rose in Shropshire, West York and parts of Wales and forced the evacuation of homes and cut rail service between several major cities and towns.

The Sun newspaper said firefighters had to evacuate 100 people from a factory in Silsden and rescued a Shropshire motorist who spent the night trapped in her car.

The Daily Mail said nearly 50 flood warnings were in effect Monday with wet weather predicted through the day.

The newspaper said the foul weather was being blamed on unseasonal warm weather for this time of year.
