EDINBURGH, Scotland, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- The National Trust for Scotland has begun a worldwide search for young people whose ancestors fought the 1746 Battle of Culloden.
The battle was decisive in a losing campaign to restore the House of Stuart to the British throne.
Members of the trust plan to encourage youngsters to search their family histories for connections to solders involved in the fight -- whether for or against Prince Charles Edward Stuart, popularly known as Bonnie Prince Charlie -- The Scotsman reported Thursday.
The trust hopes two young descendants of the solders will help open the new visitor center in Culloden on the battle's anniversary, April 16, the report said.
"It's more to do with the process rather than who the ancestor was," said Alexander Bennett, coordinator of the project. "It's not as if we are looking for a direct descendant of the prince. It would be nice if we could have someone from both sides, just ordinary, everyday people."
The trust is taking submissions of family histories from school kids until March 19.
