Jefferson has asked a federal judge in Virginia to suppress statements he made and some documents seized from his house in New Orleans, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.

Jefferson is scheduled to go on trial next month on charges he took bribes from companies seeking his influence to get telecommunications business in Africa.

On the witness stand, Jefferson accused FBI agents of lying when they said he asked them to conceal a videotape that allegedly shows him accepting a $100,000 bribe. He said agents barked questions at him during a hostile two-hour interview.

When he got up to use the toilet, Jefferson said an agent followed him and stopped him from closing the door.

Jefferson's lawyer said he should have had counsel present.
