Iran warns against further U.N. sanctions

TEHRAN, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Iran is warning the United Nations Security Council against imposing additional economic sanctions when it meets in Berlin next week.

The five members of the Security Council along with Germany are poised to consider a new round of economic sanctions aimed at pressuring Iran to halt its nuclear program, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency reported Friday.

"I warn the U.S. not to be after any mischief in the meeting and to think on final settlement of Iran's nuclear case," Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani told a Muslim worshippers at Tehran University Friday.

Rafsanjani voiced hope that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) would not change its course under pressure from the West.

"Dialogue, understanding and confidence building are the key to Iran's nuclear problem," he said.

Rafsanjani said Iran would continue cooperating with the IAEA.

"If a day comes when everything regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear activities is revealed transparently, no excuse will be left then," he said.
