3 charged with selling Chinese fakes

RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Two owners of a New York store and a third man have been charged with importing millions of dollars in counterfeit goods from China.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested Chong Lam and Siu Yung Chan at their store on West 30th Street in Manhattan Tuesday, the Justice Department said. Eric Yuen was arrested Thursday in Las Vegas.

They allegedly sold wallets, purses and other items that were faked versions of luxury brands like Burberry, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Coach.

Assistant Attorney General Alice Walker described the case as one of the biggest ever involving items with fake trademarks.

"This was a sophisticated criminal conspiracy that trafficked millions of dollars of counterfeit goods from China, profiting off the backs of legitimate companies and their hard-working employees," Fisher said.
