FRIDLEY, Minn., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- A Minnesota man who police say became uncooperative died after state troopers shot him with a Taser.

Authorities said the man, who was in his 20s, became uncooperative with state troopers after being involved in a car crash Tuesday in New Brighton, the Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported Wednesday.

Allina Medical Transportation spokesman Tim Burke said the man was breathing but unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead at Unity Hospital in Fridley, Minn.

Five state troopers who were at the scene have been placed on routine administrative leave an investigation by the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Friday's incident is the State Patrol's first Taser-related death since troopers started carrying the stun devices about a year and a half ago, said Lt. Mark Peterson.

The Anoka County coroner's office said it was going to perform an autopsy and expected to release the results Thursday, the newspaper reported.
