Islamist site calls for British al-Qaida

LONDON, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- An Islamist Web site that urges formation of al-Qaida in Britain also has veiled threats against Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his predecessor, Tony Blair.

The posting on www.alekhlaas.net calls Brown and Blair infidels and urges action against them, The Telegraph reported.

"You don't ignore this sort of thing," Pauline Neville-Jones, former head of the British joint intelligence committee, said on the BBC program Newsnight. "It may not be a threat from an existing cell ... but it does represent a move in the propaganda game and the propaganda game is not something we should ignore. This is after all a struggle over ideology."

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, in an interview this week with BBC World News America, said that he believes terrorists see Europe as "a target and a platform for terrorist attacks." He said that controls on travelers coming to the United States under the visa-waiver program are likely to become tighter.
