Snow slows down search for snowboarders

WOLF CREEK, Colo., Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The search for two snowboarders missing since a weekend storm continued in Colorado Wednesday but was hampered by more bad weather.

The two men, Michael George and Kyle Kerschen, both age 27 of Albuquerque, N.M., went missing at the Wolf Creek Ski Area Saturday, The Denver Post reported Wednesday.

Tuesday had brought clearer skies, allowing air search teams to look for the men with heat-detecting equipment. But Wednesday brought more snow and winds, preventing their ability to see clearly, Mineral County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sandy Kroll said.

One of the men's cars, which they used to drive from Albuquerque, was discovered in the ski area's parking lot with no sign of the snowboarders.

Temperatures in the mountains have been below freezing. The weather was expected to clear Thursday but more snow was forecast for Friday.

"We're just hoping to get a break in the weather," Kroll told the newspaper.
