MEMPHIS, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A Memphis Zoo spokesman said a dog that was attacked by a tiger after it wandered into an exhibit was recovering Wednesday at the Animal Emergency Center.

Spokesman Brian Carter said the dog, a female retriever mix, was doing well Wednesday after suffering puncture wounds on its neck, shoulder and legs during Tuesday's attack, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reported Thursday.

The dog was chased by zoo keepers after sneaking in though a service entrance and got into a scuffle with one of the zoo's two Sumatran tigers after jumping into the tiger exhibit for refuge.

Zoo officials said the owner of the dog, which was wearing a collar with no tags, has not yet been identified.
