WASHINGTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A man who escaped from a New Jersey county jail was taken into custody Wednesday in Mexico City.
U.S. Marshals provided Mexican authorities with information leading to the capture of Otis Blunt at a hotel in Mexico City, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement.
Blunt, 32, had been sought by New Jersey law enforcement officials since he and Jose Espinosa, 20, escaped from the Union City New Jersey Police Jail Dec. 15.
Espinosa was captured Tuesday in New Jersey.
Prior to his escape, Blunt was being held on weapons charges in connection with a 2005 homicide.
"Since the day of his escape, right through the holidays, apprehending this guy has been the highest priority case for the U.S. Marshals' New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force," said Task Force Commander Lenny DePaul.
The arrest occurred without incident or injuries, the statement said. Blunt is awaiting extradition.
