Man sought in bizarre kidnapping

BOULDER, Colo., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A Colorado man says he was kidnapped and imprisoned for 14 hours in his own home by a man who had briefly dated his wife.

Doug Edwards of Boulder told police that a man with a gun confronted him Friday night after he pulled into his garage, the Boulder Daily Camera reported. The man handcuffed him to a beam in his basement.

Edwards managed to escape from the handcuffs after 14 hours and ran from the house, jumping into a passing pick-up truck and telling the woman to keep driving.

Police were searching for James Michael Richards of Westminster.

Edwards' brother said he had never heard of Richards before Friday but now believes the man had been stalking him and his wife, Dina Bodaubay. She is in Kazakhstan trying to obtain a U.S. visa.

Tim Edwards said that Richards told his brother he had been responsible for a series of incidents, including stealing a box of Christmas presents off the porch and pouring pool chemicals into Edwards' car.
