ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- British experts, helping Pakistan investigate Benazir Bhutto's assassination, reportedly are looking for the headscarf she was wearing when she was attacked.
Pakistan's Nation reported Monday the five-member Scotland Yard team was looking for the white scarf the slain former prime minister wore when she was killed Dec. 27 at a political rally in Rawalpindi.
"The headscarf of Benazir Bhutto is likely to resolve the mystery which swirls around the fact that whether she was shot in the head from right or left," the Nation report said, quoting police sources.
The Pakistani government has given conflicting statements on the cause of death, bringing intensive pressure on it to conduct an open and transparent investigation with the help of outside investigators.
The British detectives also were to interview on Tuesday a board of doctors at the Rawalpindi General Hospital where Bhutto was declared dead, the report said.
Separately, Dawn newspaper reported Monday the British detectives have been asked to conclude its investigation before elections now set for Feb. 18.
Hamid Nawaz, interior minister in Pakistan's caretaker government, was quoted as clarifying to Dawn the government, however, hasn't given any specific deadline to the investigators.
"We have asked the Scotland Yard team to brief the media about the investigations if they have anything to share," he said.
