Suicide bomber mars Iraqi celebrations

BAGHDAD, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Baghdad's Army Day celebration was marred by a bomber who detonated an explosive vest, killing at least eight Iraqi soldiers and wounding several others.

The bomber blew himself up near Iraqi soldiers participating in a national Army Day ceremony Sunday, the BBC reported.

The explosion occurred near the offices of a non-governmental organization located in the Karrada neighborhood of eastern Baghdad.

Army Day commemorates the founding of the Iraqi Army in 1921.
