JAKARTA, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Authorities say former Indonesian President Suharto is in critical condition and has been hospitalized with heart, kidney and lung problems.

The 86-year-old former dictator was hospitalized in Jakarta Friday and may be placed on dialysis, Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported Saturday.

Suharto, who like many Javanese has only one name, was forced out of office in 1998 following mass demonstrations and allegations of corruption.

He has undergone numerous operations in the last several years, including treatment for strokes, The Jakarta Post reported Saturday.

"It is still too early to say whether this illness is life threatening or not," Suharto's chief doctor, Djoko Rahardjo, told reporters Friday night.
