The Palestinian Authority, however, said the operations hurt its own efforts in the region.

"The operations ruin the P.A.'s security efforts which have begun to bear fruit," said authority Prime Minister Salaam Fayad said Friday.

Anonymous Palestinian sources told the Post Israeli security forces arrested several members of Fatah.

The Palestinian Authority ordered its police forces in the West Bank to stand down and abstain from carrying weapons to avoid detention by Israeli forces.
